Abstract The thermal decomposition of calcium propionate, in inert and oxidative atmospheres, has been investigated by thermogravimetry combined with infrared evolved gas analysis; the main volatiles formed during have identified. intermediate final products characterized spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, elemental analysis scanning electron microscopy. different mechanisms involved are discussed as a function atmosphere sample structure. kinetics ability powders to undergo runaway also investigated.
